Schwarze Schlucht

A dark, poisonous cave far beneath Majula, which houses several monstrous abonimations and The Rotten
Pools of acid can be found from which emerge a hand-like creature that will attempt to grab the player and eat them. The pools reduce equipment durability. They can be set on fire with a torch by getting close to or rolling through the pool. You can also set them aflame with a Fire imbued weapon or from afar with fire arrows or Pyromancy.
The statues will shoot poison darts at the player. Hit them with a weapon and they will break. Spears are very useful for this, as is the Force miracle if you can spare the attunement slot. Destructive Great Arrows are also effective however regular arrows are not. Soul Arrow sorcery combined with Binocular also work well. You can also use jars and firebombs, although remember that your character throws in the direction they're facing, not the direction of the camera. if you prefer rushing through the area without breaking statues, Poison Moon Butterfly Shield or Poison Blossom Kite Sheild can block the poison dart without inflicting poison buildup since these infused shields have 100% poison reduction. PLEASE NOTE: Statues do not repair themselves when the player rests at the bonfire, but DO repair themselves if the player teleports to another bonfire, or dies (basically, they come back whenever the player sees a loading screen)

Walkthrough

After entering from The Gutter there is an immediate cave to the left with a Bonfire inside. Make sure you use this. The pathway down is pretty obvious with (mostly) a single linear progression. Poison statues that you saw in the gutter are everywhere. They should be a primary concern. After a short path there is a large area with puddles on the floor (described above)and lots of statues.

Just before you get to the first large open area, it's worth lighting a torch and examining the ground beneath the cliff on the right hand side. If you look carefully, you will see a small ledge jutting out that you can jump down on. video showing her location here This will take you into a tunnel containing Lucatiel of Mirrah and no enemies. The tunnel winds up and you'll end in a terrace area overlooking the first main clearing. There are a bunch of poison statues that you can destroy here, and doing so will make navigating this area much easier. Once you're done, drop back down into the main area and proceed.

Three of the puddles have a large worm like creature with lots of teeth and what looks like a hand for its head. They have a grab move that does massive damage but can be blocked. A good tactic is to set these on fire from a distance. The hands also sometimes drop Titanite Chunks and Large Titanite Shards. To the left of the puddles is a smaller path leading into a cave where a chest containing Shotel and Great Magic Weapon can be found.

Back out on the main path a giant worm that will pop out of the wall. It appears to mainly attack right in front of it, but does posses a sweeping attack moving from it's left to right that can attack the immediate area around it. Archery is a completely safe tactic. Two corpses are near this worm. One has a Torch and Scraps Of Life and the other has a Soul of a Nameless Soldier, I also got the spell Dead Again on the corpse in my game, annoying as I'd just bought it thinking I wouldn't pick it up during normal play. Another giant worm will pop out at you. Giant worms may drop Poison Stone upon their death and this may be a viable farming area.

Note: Before the next area but after passing the second giant worm, look to the right to find a small ledge which you can drop down from to land on a platform in front of the Forgotten Door with Darkdiver Grandahl inside. See bottom section of guide for details.

Shortly after you will arrive in another big area with hand worms and many statues. There is a corpse hidden in a Jar with a Radiant Lifegem. Turn hard left to find another cave with a chest. Break all the Poison Statues first as they will shoot at you. Go around the chest to reach the Statue behind it. Loot the chest to get Divine Blessing. Head back outside and retrace your steps. From the entrance of this large area there is a small pathway on the far right hand side past two Poison Statues. This leads to a Bonfire. A Pharros' Lockstone is on a corpse in the Jar behind it.. Another urn blocks a shortcut that leads to the end of the large room. This is desirable as it allows you to bypass almost all of the statues and all enemies if you fail to win against the next boss, who is close by. Either taking the shortcut or going through the main area leads to a Mist Door with the boss fight.

Boss: The Rotten.

Beating the boss nets you the Soul of the Rotten and 40k souls. Helping another player beat this boss will result in 10k souls.
There is an easy to get to corpse on the left side of the arena on the other side of a flaming tar pit which holds a Pharros' Lockstone. (It seems to be a drop from cutting off his grabbing hand. The corpse left behind will have the lockstone wherever the arm was severed.)
As well as a corpse holding a Fire Seed that requires crossing a bit of fire to reach.
A small door leads out to a narrow tunnel. There is a small room on the right with a chest containing Sublime Bone Dust. A large room has a Primal Bonfire in it.

Forgotten Key and Door

Within the first area right after the second Giant Worm there is a platform to the right from which you can fall on to another platform below which holds a door that requires the Forgotten Key, to get this key, head right when facing the door and jump down to the platform below then to a platform below that on your hard right (almost behind). You will find a cave within which is a pair of giants. The giants are able to be poisoned and casting is also a viable tactic. For an easy fight, bait them to the ledge outside while doing damage, then once outside run around the corner to the right and hide. They will retreat to the cave. Keep doing this till they are dead. Upon killing the giants you will receive a Soul Of A Giant and the Forgotten Key. These giants respawn though they do not drop multiple forgotten keys or giant souls. In the chamber with the giants is a doorway straight ahead from the entrance which leads to a chest containing Ring of Giants +1 and a Petrified Dragon Bone. Go back into the main chamber and search for a door to the left. Inside is an elevator and a Jar on the ledge behind which holds Silver Talisman x4. Circle around hugging the right wall to reach the Jars. Ride the elevator up. This brings you to a ledge above the main pit (opposite the bonfire, near the large skeleton). Make your way back to the ledge and drop down to the Forgotten Door. Beyond the door is Darkdiver Grandahl and one of the altars that leads to the Dark Chasm of Old upon joining the Pilgrims of Dark.

Note: Now that you have the Forgotten Key, revisit the other locked door in The Gutter area to claim Havel's Armor Set.
