Das Loch

A forsaken area of darkness and poison, where things are abandoned and since forgotten. Its lore is reminiscent of the Valley of Defilement from Demon's Souls, and aesthetically it is an amalgam of that world and Blighttown from Dark Souls. The statues will shoot poison darts at the player. Hit them with a weapon and they will break (neither arrows nor bolts will break them).

Walkthrough

Let me preface this by saying that this guide does its best to get every possible item in one pass. So if you follow the guide every step, no matter how off the beating-path it may seem, you should have no problems.

Before coming to this area stock up on anti-poison items and equip your shield in your right hand. Yes I said it. You want your shield always up and a torch prohibits this if it's in your left hand. Alternately, If you have Cast Light magic, you can skip needed a torch all the time, but it's still helpful for lighting Sconces and trust me YOU WANT TO.

Immediately after entering this area you will be on a ledge with multiple stone statues that can and will spit poison at you. Destroy them. Drop down to the wooden ramp way below and move right and drop over again to the wood below. At the top of this ramp is a Hollow and a few jars. There doesn't appear to be a way back onto the ramp if you venture onto this ledge so don't do it. (If you wear the cat ring, you can sprint jump to the bonfire while taking little damage.) Head down and the floor will soon break under you. Don't worry, this is actually a good thing as a Bonfire now sits behind you. Also on this area is a Sconce and a Jar hiding Dung Pie x2. Head back to the bonfire and walk up the the wooden bridge. There is a Sconce in the left corner but stay very close to the right edge of this platform when walking. If you walk in the middle of this platform the floor will collapse under you, only this time you will be in a room with 4 Hollows. This is one of the many split paths in this place so let's cover one scenario at a time.

On the top of the platform, move straight ahead to meet a Large Mutant Dog. Kill him then light the Sconce in his room. Head up the ramp to the right to find another Sconce and a Hollow. A Poison statue is also hanging so break it. ( Note: From here you can snipe some hollows hanging off a ledge to your right.) Head up the ramp here to find another Sconce and an area you can drop down to below. Down here are multiple Hollows that will ambush you as soon as you drop and a Jar hiding a Soul Of A Nameless Soldier x1. Break the poison statues to make the area as safe as possible.

Off the right side is a wooden ramp leading up, but go off the far left side near the wall with a Sconce above onto a winding stone pathway that leads to a jump to the building ahead. Drop down to ground level and circle the building to find a Sconce and a few poison statues. Inside the ground floor of the building are 3 Jars with a whopping nothing inside so head up the ladder to the left of the doorway. Once on the roof, you will see an area to your left which you can jump to, hold on a second rambo, first circle the small structure on the roof to reach a Sconce and more importantly a poison statue that will hinder you after you jump across. Break it then make the jump. To your left is a chest containing Ring Of Soul Protection x1. All the way right is a Sconce and a Poison Statue. ( Note: Once I lit this the NPC Melinda The Butcher invaded me. I'm sure it's coincidence but just know she can and most likely will invade you at some point. - Happened to me too when I lit this sconce. In fact, she despawned, and when I lit a torch at this sconce, she invaded again. -Actually, this may have been a coincidence. I did not light the sconce, and she invaded as soon as I dropped back down (x2) From the Sconce you can drop back down to the original platform we were at before we dropped off to the stone pathway. But before we do that, return towards the chest and face the building once more to see a small ledge below which you can jump to. Inside the room is a chest containing Twinkling Titanite x1 and Small Smooth And Silky Stone x3. Once that's done return outside and drop back down to ground level. Climb up the ladder once more, make the jump towards the chest and go drop down to the right of the Sconce. Turn left and past the Sconce off the edge onto the wooden ramp we skipped earlier. Head up to soon reach 3 Jars, one holding a Lifegem x1. Past the jars is a ledge leading down to the first bonfire.

Go back up the small bridge and move towards the middle of the platform to have the floor break under you. Defeat the 4 Hollows and head out through the wall onto the walkway. Ahead below you are two hollows and a Sconce you can light to the left. Take out the Hollow without the torch using ranged attacks and jump across. ( Torchbro is helpful to light the platform for your jump). On this platform is another Sconce, a ladder leading up and a fog door in the distance. Up the ladder is a Sconce and a cave with multiple Poison Statues. On the far end is a Large Locked Door. Behind it lies many many Poison Statues guarding a Jars which contains Havel's Armor Set. To open the door you need the Forgotten Key which is located in Black Gulch so ignore it and head back out. Facing the fog door, head forwards and watch out for the hole in the floor up ahead. On this platform are 2 more Poison Statues in the right corner and a Sconce on the left. On your right is building with a tempting ledge jump, but let's get there another way. Drop down through the hole in the floor into the room below. and continue through the doorway to reach a ledge with 3 jars. Break them to reveal a corpse holding Dark Pyromancy Flame x1 and Rotten Pine Resin x1. Careful as behind the wall to your left are a few Hollows as well as a Mutant Dog. Clear the room and head up the ladder to find another Hollow and a Sconce to your right. Head up the ladder on the far side of the room. Upstairs are a Sconce and 3 more Jars, one of which holds Soul Of A Nameless Soldier x1. From the Sconce, DON'T head around the outside ledge as there is nothing but a trap drop and poison statues. ( Note: From this ledge, it's a short jump back to the first bridge near the first bonfire. Helpful if you fell through the trap floor in the beginning.) Near the jars drop down to the platform on your right. CAUTION as when you drop down an infinitely exploding zombie on the bridge will attack shortly. Break the poison statues, kill the Mutant Dog above if you can and light the Sconce. Head across the bridge.

On the other side is a Mutant Dog and a Hollow that will drop down from above. Kill them and go up the ladder to find a Sconce, a Poison Statue and a Chest containing Black Firebomb x3. Go back down the ladder. At the bottom of the ladder, face it and move around the right side. Head straight to a small wooden beam hanging over the far right side. From it, drop down carefully to the wood below, then drop again to the platform with a Hollow. Circle around the structure to find 2 Jars hiding a corpse holding Titanite Chunk x1. Slightly past them is a Sconce. Move back around the structure and through the hole in the wall to drop down into the next room. Ahead is a Sconce and 2 more jars on the far left containing the Tattered Cloth Set. Jump across to the pathway ahead. To your left is a Sconce. Be careful here as a Hanging Poison Statue will shoot poison at you and you can't reach it to break it. After lighting the Sconce 3 Hollows will climb the cliff behind you and attack. Head forward to find a ladder and and chest behind it. There are two Hollows playing dead in front of it. The Chest contains Ring Of The Evil Eye x1. Climb up the ladder and kill the two Hollows faking death. Ahead is a Sconce and to your right are jars holding Soul Of A Proud Knight x1. Circle around the structure to find an Exploding Zombie and 2 more Jars which hold Bandit Greataxe x1. From here you can make a small drop to a slanted platform with a Sconce. Don't worry you can jump back up, or you can down to another platform with one poison statue. From there fallow the wall to the right to drop down again to a path that leads to an urn containing Flame Butterfly x2. Then you can drop to the platform with the chest containing the Firebombs. From the jars holding Soul Of A Proud Knight, circle back around to find a small ladder leading to the roof of the structure. Up here is a zipline that will take you to the opposite side of The Gutter.

After riding the zipline. go straight ahead and light the Sconce. Drop off the left edge from the sconce to reach the bridge from earlier (where the exploding mummy attacked). Go to the other side and head across the wooden beam path to the right, break the Poison Statues and climb up the ladder. Up top is a Sconce and a Bridge. Cross the Bridge and break the Poison Statue then go light the Sconce. Mind the hole in the floor to the left. If you fall through the hole in the floor a Mutant Dog awaits. In that room are also some jars hiding a corpse with Black Firebomb x2, but it's not worth it cause there is a jump to a ledge full of poison spitting statues to get away from this area. ( If you do decide to jump down, move to the outer ledge and jump across towards the multiple Poison Jars to be on the Bonfire platform as found later in this guide. Note you won't be able to get back to the bridge mentioned next without fast traveling all the way back to the start.). Ignore the hole and head across the bridge ahead and light the Sconce. Turn right and you will soon be at the entrance of a cave. Past the entrance is a Poison Statue and a Sconce. Back at the cave, Inside are enemies waiting to ambush you so move cautiously inside. Inside is a chest containing Wicked Eye Greatshield x1. Outside the cave, move along the left and light the Sconce. Down below is a fog wall and a Mutant Dog. Drop down and fight him, clear the area of Poison statues and smash the jars in the middle of the area for Poison Arrow x20.

Through the fog door a bonfire is slightly ahead, but we will get to that in a minute. First let me point out that while still in the area you just killed the Mutant Dog in, on the path to the left past some Poison Statues is a small cave. Inside is a Giant Ant Queen that emits constant blue gas. DO NOT KILL THIS GIANT ANT, no matter how terrifying it may seem. This giant ant is actually friendly and will not attack the player, and the gas released will cure poison (at the cost of slight equipment durability damage). She is guarded by Poison Ticks. You can lure them out or take them from a distance to avoid damage. After killing them, move deeper into the room and break the Poison Statues and the 2 Jars to collect Poison Moss x4.

Let's head through the fog door. Inside are a few hollows and Poison Statues. There are also multiple ladders as well but most are pointless so we will focus on the important ones.First, ignore everything and head straight to the opposite wall in the room. To the left are some hollows. On this wall is a breakable section that leads outside. A Bonfire is to your left. Rest at the bonfire if you want then head back into the room with all the ladders. ( Note: Again, mostly all other ladders here are useless, except for one that leads back up from below.) So upon entering from the bonfire, head straight and towards the jars in the upper left. These hide a ladder and also Dung Pie x3. Climb down and drop off the edge ahead onto a rock platform holding 2 jars. One of which holds Rotten Pine Resin x3. Drop down off the left side onto another rocky platform to find a chest containing Great Club x1. Take the ladder down but be careful as there are many Hollows waiting at the bottom. From the bottom of the ladder head straight towards some jars holding Lifegem x20! ( NO that's NOT a typo :P ). From here, head left and you will see multiple unusual looking jars blocking a hole in the wall. Ignore these for now and keep going left to find 2 regular jars holding Dark Fog x1 and Torch x1. To the left even more is a ladder which eventually leads back up to the main room next to the Bonfire. Return to the peculiar jars. WARNING: Break them from a distance if you can as they contain a liquid that does corrosive damage to your armor. Through the hole in the wall is a drop down to a Sconce and a corpse holding Fragrant Branch Of Yore x1. Up ahead is a fog door leading to Black Gulch.
